Immune-boosting turmeric nutmeg nog


A favourite of Ayurveda, turmeric is something of a wonder spice. Its brilliant pigment curcumin is a potent natural anti-inflammatory, and has also been shown to very effectively treat a variety of pain-related and rheumatoid illnesses as well as irritable gut symptoms. It is also a highly efficient anti-oxidant, able to neutralise free radicals – harmful chemicals that can travel through the body, destroy healthy cell and membranes and cause any number of diseases, from arthritis to cancer.

Its magic combination of anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties make it our best spicy friend and I like to add its vibrant colour and distinctive flavour to my food whenever I can.

Turmeric almond nog

My good friend and yoga teacher Margherita dal Pra introduced me to this delicious dairy-free nog, and now I take it with me almost everywhere I go during the cold winter months. The fragrant anti-bacterial nutmeg warms you up and keeps defences high, while omega-filled sesame and flax provide good nourishing oils and keep you stoked up with energy.


6 dates

15 almomds, soaked and peeled

1 tbsp flax seed

2 tbsp sesame seeds

1/2 tsp chia seeds

1 pint water

1 tsp turmeric

1/2 tsp nutmeg

Blend all the ingredients until smooth and creamy. Enjoy!
